John D. Buchanan, Jr.

John D. Buchanan, Jr. John D. Buchanan, Jr., is the senior shareholder in the firm. He has been an active trial lawyer for over 35 years, representing individual and corporate clients in all levels of state and federal courts. His federal court experience includes successfully arguing a constitutional issue before the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Buchanan concentrates his practice in the areas of health care and corporate law. His broad health care practice includes medical malpractice defense, defense of health care providers in disciplinary proceedings, medical staff credentialing, peer review issues, and Medicaid fraud. Mr. Buchanan has been involved in a number of cases of first impression in the health care field, including the issue of economic credentialing.

Mr. Buchanan was recently president of the Florida Association of Health Care Attorneys and presently serves on its Board of Directors. He is former Chair of the Health Law Section of the Florida Bar and Co-Editor of the Florida Practitioner’s Handbook published by the Health Law Section of the Florida Bar. He is a member of the American Academy of Health Care Attorneys, the International Association of Defense Counsel, and the Defense Research Institute. He is author of the article “Subpoenas Duces Tecum v. HIPPA: Which Wins”, Fla. Bar Journal, Vol. 29, No. 2, February 2005. Mr. Buchanan has represented the American Medical Association, the Florida Medical Association, the Florida Hospital Association and hospitals throughout the state. Mr. Buchanan received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his J.D. from Washington Lee University. Mr. Buchanan is rated "AV" by Martindale-Hubbell.
